No one plants a sunflower because it’s already beautiful.
We plant it because we believe in what it will become.
That thought stayed with me after I tucked a tiny sunflower seed into the ground this week.
Looking at that little patch of soil, there wasn’t much to see.
No bright yellow petals.
No tall green stem.
Just a tiny seed, quietly hidden beneath the surface.
And it made me wonder…
How many things in our lives are growing that we simply can’t see yet?
Living with chronic illness can feel a lot like that.
We keep taking our medications.
We choose to rest even when we wish we could do more.
We pray.
We hope.
We keep putting one foot in front of the other.
Sometimes it feels like nothing is happening at all.
Sometimes we wonder if all the effort is making any difference.
But just because we can’t see growth doesn’t mean God isn’t working beneath the surface.
This week, I planted a sunflower.
I also opened the doors to Chronically Cozy.
Neither one looks like its full potential yet.
And that’s okay.
Beautiful things rarely begin fully grown.
Neither do the stories God is writing in us.
The Bible reminds us,
“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9
So maybe today your “sunflower” isn’t a flower at all.
Maybe it’s a dream you’ve been afraid to begin.
Maybe it’s choosing to rest without guilt.
Maybe it’s making that doctor’s appointment.
Maybe it’s asking for help.
Maybe it’s praying a prayer you’ve prayed a hundred times before.
Or maybe it’s simply getting out of bed today when that felt like enough of a challenge.
Whatever your sunflower is…
Plant it anyway.
Take the small step.
Trust the process.
And remember…
God is often growing the most beautiful things where our eyes cannot yet see.
Thank you for spending a little time with me here in the Living Room.
I’m so glad you stopped by.
Until next time…
The porch light will be on.
