The Life I Thought I’d Have

Sometimes I catch myself remembering the person I thought I’d become.

Not because I don’t love the life I have.

But because life looks different than I imagined it would.

I pictured a body that always kept up with my plans.

I imagined saying “yes” without first wondering how much energy it would cost.

I assumed I’d have more strength.

More certainty.

More control.

Life had other plans.

Fibromyalgia wasn’t part of the dream I had for myself.

Neither were doctor’s appointments, medications, or afternoons spent resting because my body simply couldn’t keep going.

For a long time, I felt guilty for grieving that.

After all…

I have so much to be thankful for.

A loving family.

A home.

Faith that has carried me through some incredibly hard days.

How could I grieve and be grateful at the same time?

Then I realized…

Those two things aren’t enemies.

They can exist together.

It’s okay to miss the life you imagined.

And it’s okay to embrace the life you’re living.

God has never been surprised by the detours.

He’s just as present in the unexpected chapters as He is in the ones we would have written ourselves.

These days, my dreams look a little different.

They’re slower.

Gentler.

More intentional.

Maybe even a little cozier.

And you know what?

I’m beginning to believe that’s okay.

Because purpose doesn’t disappear when life changes.

Sometimes…

It simply finds a new address.

🌻 Take With You 🌻

It’s okay to grieve the life you imagined. God is still faithfully writing beauty into the life you’re living.

Hi, I'm Josie. I'm so glad you're here. I'm the creator of Chronically Cozy, a place inspired by my own journey living with fibromyalgia and chronic illness. What began as a desire to organize helpful resources has grown into something much more—a cozy home where people can find encouragement, practical tools, honest conversations, and the reminder that they don't have to walk this road alone. Outside of Chronically Cozy, I'm a wife, a singer-songwriter, a crocheter, and a proud cat mom to nine wonderfully spoiled cats. I find joy in creating beautiful things, whether that's writing a song, crocheting something with my hands, or building spaces that help people feel welcomed and understood. Living with chronic illness has taught me that healing isn't always about finding a cure. Sometimes it's about finding hope, learning to rest without guilt, celebrating the little victories, leaning into faith, and discovering beauty even on the hard days. Everything I share here comes from my own experiences, countless hours of research, and a heart that genuinely wants others to feel seen, supported, and encouraged. Whether you're visiting for a few minutes or decide to stay awhile, I hope you'll always find kindness, comfort, and a place where you feel at home. Welcome, neighbor.
